Joint RCE-OECD workshop on Financial Inclusion and Financial Education, 30 July 2021

 

Ms. Flore-Anne Messy, Head of the Consumer Finance, Insurance and Pensions Division, OECD stated that “This workshop is part of the series of workshops organised together with the FSC and the OECD on a range of financial and business issues…. The OECD is committed to support countries to develop their policies on financial inclusion, financial literacy and Financial Consumer Protection as a way to strengthen consumers’ financial resilience and financial well-being…..”

 

 

 

Mr Dhanesswurnath Thakoor, Chief Executive of the FSC highlighted that “This workshop is yet an illustration of the OECD’s engagement towards fostering financial education and protection of consumers of financial services…... In view of the complexity of financial markets, financial education will have to assume greater importance in promoting financial inclusion…...

 

The workshop focused on the different approaches and developments of the financial consumer Protection and Financial Education. It explored national perspectives on the financial consumer protection approaches, latest developments and challenges from both public and private sector. The workshop also discussed COVID-19 financial education policy responses to protect and support financial consumers in the African region. The sessions were followed by fruitful discussions and feedback.
