Mr Mishra spoke on the evolution of the FinTech landscape in Mauritius from a regulatory perspective. Provided insights into key regulatory milestones, compliance frameworks, and the licensing of Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) under the VAITOS Act providing clarity on the current regulatory environment. Furthermore, an overview of the opportunities and regulatory challenges, particularly in relation to VASPs, enriched the dialogue and added meaningful context to national Fintech positioning of Mauritius.
The suitability of Mauritius as a Fintech hub for Africa, with Mauritius climbing to 75th position in Global Innovation Index 2024(GFCI36) was also highlighted.
Mr Mishra further emphasized on the modern legislative Fintech framework of Mauritius, which is both flexible and resilient. Proportionality in compliance being key so that it doesn’t stifle innovations what guides us as we evolve in our regulatory journey.
He also touched on the National Fintech Committee under the joint chair of BOM and MFSEP, where FSC is playing an integral part. He ended his presentation by enlisting the regulatory challenges and hurdles, together with the way forward.
